Soon, We’ll Say Goodbye
This may be our penultimate issue—or perhaps our last. The Qarib Program concludes its journey with an impressive legacy: more than 6,200 media productions across Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, and Palestine.
Whenever we, as the program team, ask ourselves whether Qarib has succeeded in creating meaningful change on the ground, we look to the tangible impact achieved both in communities and within the media outlets we supported.
We can confidently say that these productions have made a real difference. The program has also played an important role in helping many independent media organizations continue, grow, and strengthen their roots.
Qarib’s role extended far beyond supporting media production. Through dozens of training programs, hundreds of journalists across the four countries enhanced their professional skills and capacities.
The Lebanese Union of Journalists has launched the second phase of its joint project with Qarib, aimed at supporting media law reforms and raising awareness around them.
This training builds upon the first phase of the project, which included meetings with approximately 15 members of parliament from various political blocs.
The Qarib Award and the Amman Gathering
To celebrate the program’s achievements, and despite the many challenges faced across Palestine, Lebanon, Iraq, and Jordan, we will gather in Amman at the end of this month.
As for the Qarib Award, the judging committee has completed its work, and the winners have already been notified of their success in the various award categories.
The award categories include:
- Best Journalism Coverage of Climate and Environmental Issues
- Best Journalism Coverage of Women’s Rights with a Gender-Sensitive Approach
- Best Journalism Coverage of Socio-Economic Issues and Local Governance
- Best Youth Coverage by Young Journalists Aged 18–30
- Best Investigative Journalism Project on Corruption Affecting Marginalized Communities
See You in Amman
We look forward to meeting you again in our final issue later this month, where we will announce the award winners and share highlights from our closing celebration and final gathering.
With warm regards,
The Qarib Team
