Pursues, Pressures, and Productions Reveal Violations
In this issue of “Qarib” magazine, we follow the attack on alternative media in Lebanon, particularly two of our partners, Daraj and Megaphone, after they were summoned for investigation following a report filed against them accusing them of “conspiring against Lebanon” over their coverage of corruption and the economic crisis in Lebanon.
Diana Moukalled, co-founder and executive editor of Daraj, says that the campaign aims to mislead public opinion about key issues, specifically those related to those responsible for the financial and economic collapse, by silencing independent voices and those exposing violations and corruption.

We are also following the arrest of Lebanese journalist Mahdi Karim for his work for the Lebanese platform Manateq, which is also a partner in the program “Qarib”, which covers a violation on the beach in the southern city of Tyre.
Journalist Mahdi Karim, who was released hours after his arrest, recounted the story of the violation and its consequences.
The investigative report by Iraqi journalist Manar al-Zubaidi on the illegal forex trade has mobilized the issue at an official level through a parliamentary inquiry into the scandal. The investigation won the 2024 Qarib Media Award for Best Coverage of Financial and Economic Affairs by Female Journalists. In detail, Mohammed Nouri, a member of the Iraqi Parliamentary Committee, directed inquiries to the Securities Commission regarding the investigation, particularly regarding the presence of brokerage firms from inside and outside Iraq that are being widely promoted on social media, causing Iraqi citizens to incur heavy losses. The report reveals that this illegal trade has reached billions of dinars, and that most of its victims are women and young people. href=”https://raseef22.net/article/1097895-%D8%AA%D8%AC%D8%A7%D8%B1%D8%A9-%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%81%D9%88%D8%B1%D9%83%D8%B3-%D8%BA%D9%8A%D8%B1-%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%85%D8%B1%D8%AE%D8%B5%D8%A9-%D9%81%D9%8A-%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%B9 Read Investigation
Women of the Chimera is the only Arab platform to have won the award, which was presented to our colleague Tala Al-Sharif at the International Journalism Festival in Perugia, Italy, in April.
From Palestine also:
Coverage of violations does not only include the security and military aspects. The Women FM platform in Palestine, which is distinguished by its interest in the environmental repercussions on women, along with other issues, has worked to highlight the environmental impact of these violations on Palestinians, especially women in Gaza.
Khatt30 Platform and Indifference Towards Gaza
The report addresses what is happening in Gaza and discusses how images are used to establish racist binaries such as “us” and “them,” or “hero” and “villain,” depending on the publication context and the producing party. Attempts to humanize Palestinians only when they are presented as “ideal victims,” intellectuals or children, are also criticized, as this strategy reproduces the superior view of the Western world. The report emphasizes the fact that the image is interpreted according to complex cultural and political contexts. Without constant accountability for this context, we may participate—even if silently—in blinding the world to the ongoing genocide.
The East Iraq platform also addressed a health and environmental issue related to Diyala hospital incinerators and how medical waste is disposed of. And the impact of hospital wastewater being dumped into the river.
In this story from Jordan, the Aramram platform, which is concerned with a wide range of issues, especially those related to people with disabilities, addresses the story of Khaled Abdul Karim Al-Omra, who took the initiative To manufacture electric bikes for them. Through this initiative, he created opportunities for them that were not available before, such as sports.
